The Queen of Pop graces the cover of Flaunt Magazine this month. And makeup artists around the globe are losing their marbles! Beyoncé on the cover of a magazine; nothing new you say but, I predict, this particular cover is the resurgence (at least the beginning) of body art.
Body Art is nothing new to the world of makeup artistry but this cover is important as it will open the minds of the masses to a artistic concept perceived as avant-garde. Through the power of media, if the general consensus is one of acceptance, then this ALLOWS (because they need permission from their customers) corporate brands, that have previously been trepidatious, permission to do campaigns/events/etc. including body art. SIDE NOTE: I cannot begin to tell you how many PR Marketing department have approached me to do body art based events that then get shut down by corporate because they are afraid to “offend” someone.
Interestingly enough, this shoot, full of beautiful images of Beyonce in various styles of body art/adornment, took place in 2011 for her Year of 4 album campaign. Even two years ago, this was too risqué for the marketing machine behind Beyoncé.
I can guarantee this will have a ripple effect within pop culture and I’m excited to see more body art in various marketing arenas. Bring on the GLITTER and PAINT!
